Ways to Engage with Queens during the COVID-19 Pandemic

1. URGENT NEED: In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Queens needs your support now more than ever. A gift to the Queens Fund for student scholarships helps ensure incoming and current students can receive a Queens education despite their financial situation by providing need and merit-based scholarships. www.queens.edu/give

Did you know that your gift to Queens might qualify for up to a $300 charitable deduction under the new CARES Act? Learn more.

2. We need your help celebrating the Class of 2020! Send a photo or short video (15-45 seconds) of yourself virtually toasting to our graduates to alumni@queens.edu by April 26. We will share these with our graduates via social media.

3. If you know of a prospective student who is interested in Queens, please direct them to our virtual campus tours. And like always, you can Refer a Royal to help prospective students receive a $1,000 annual scholarship.

4. We have compiled a document of alumni-owned businesses and alumni entrepreneurs whom you can support during this time. The list will continually be updated, so check back. To be added to the list, please email alumni@queens.edu and include your name, business information and website link.

5. As our faculty and staff turn their operations to the virtual realm, write an encouraging email to a faculty or staff member. Find their email addresses using Queens' online directory.

6. Check out and attend one of our virtual events or live chats.

Activity Sheets & Coloring Pages

Print and complete these Queens-themed activities. Send a picture of your finished coloring page(s) to alumni@queens.edu for the chance to be featured on our social media. Have fun and get creative!

Additional Opportunities from Belk Chapel:

RISE Project (Reflection, Inspiration, Story, Expression)

Stay connected with Belk Chapel on Facebook and Instagram to enjoy personal video messages from faculty, students, staff, and friends of Queens. Learn about what brings us life and meaning in these challenging times as we hear reflections, prayers, poetry, and meditative or spiritual practices. If you’d like to participate, please contact Queens Chaplain Joey Haynes (haynesj@queens.edu). We’d love to hear from you, regardless of your faith tradition or worldview! We will also regularly post opportunities for you to financially support local organizations responding to the immediate and future needs of families in our city.

Six Week Book Study: The Book of Joy

Chaplain Joey Haynes and Dr. Suzanne Henderson have just launched a virtual book club on Mondays at 4:00 pm. They have selected The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World, which is a conversation between the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Although the introductory meeting has taken place, it is not too late to join! (And as with most book clubs, feel free to come when you can, whether or not you’ve read the book!) If you are interested, please reach out to Joey Haynes at haynesj@queens.edu or Suzanne Henderson at hendersons@queens.edu
