LeRae Umfleet works with the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources to develop outreach and specialty programming projects. Her extensive career in public history has included work with state and university archives, libraries, and historic sites. LeRae has served on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Museums Council, The North Carolina Digital Heritage Center, and the North Carolina Preservation Consortium. LeRae published A Day of Blood: the 1898 Wilmington Race Riot, based on research for which she was awarded the American Association of State and Local History Award of Merit & WOW Award.
